Falkirk Day Unit
Falkirk
Day Unit in Camelon Falkirk, is a secondary school support unit. The first
sessions began in March 2003, and two albums of music were created. The
tunes all had a pop music flavour. Alongside music making, this project helps
build the self confidence of the young people involved. Communication skills
expressed through individual creative efforts, culminate in an overwhelming
sense of self achievement and building up self
esteem.
Work
continues at The Falkirk Day Unit, following the success of Artlink Central
worker Julie Law's endeavours, to have a 'listening post' installed at The
Falkirk Tryst Festival. The 'listening post' aired music composed by the
participants who took part in music making at F.D.U. Couple this with the
enthusiasm of centre manager Gordon Bell and his team, and of course the
positive response from previous participants...it promises to be another
productive year. The new term began in August 2006, and is scheduled through
until July 2007, and beyond.
