Edinburgh City Council
The
City of Edinburgh
Council's O.O.S.H.L.A
(Out of School Hours Learning Activities) initiative. After school clubs at
Drummond Community High
School, between
March 2003 and March 2005. S3 to S5 students were taught how to use music
technology equipment and software.
Compositions complimented national curriculum learning, and some of the music
created was submitted for examination accreditation. Team work played a big part
in the learning process, which was emphasised by a solid grounding in commitment
and communication. Sessions were conducted simultaneously with my colleague,
Haftor Medbøe.
Craigmount Community Wing, where I worked at Corstorphine Community
Centre teaching secondary school pupils how to use music technology. This
involved MIDI composition and digital recording to produce a
CD.
Other
work for the project included two terms of sessions with
Kingsinch Special School. The music for this project was 'freeform'
improvisation. Pupils expressed the up's and down's of a typical 'day in
the life', from start to finish. This interpretation was complimented by a
series of personal interview's documenting very individual commentaries
from each of the pupils.
