Drummond High School
Work at the
school began with a consultancy to purchase music
technology equipment. After school classes began with S5 students in
spring 2003. Classes became part of The City of Edinburgh's O.O.S.H.L.A.
initiative. The Out Of School Hours Activities were supplemented with extra
classes, working with S3 students. This focused on music production,
arranging and constructs within musical composition. All songs have
been recorded to Compact Disk. Several school concerts resulted
in S3 students performing original material composed during these
sessions.
Funding was secured from PRS Foundation and The City of Edinburgh
Council among others, building on the success of the sessions. Plans for the
future include an in-house record label. Our aim was to give students a
flavour of the music industry through hands-on 'real life' scenarios. The last
project began in August 2004, and was scheduled through until a label
launch in July 2005.
